Opera Gala: New York Jazz Age
NYC-based ensemble The Opera Gala presents a classical pastiche NEW YORK JAZZ AGE at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 15 at THE MANSION (9 West 8th Street), hosted by Ideal Glass. Open to children and adults of all ages. The program celebrates New Yorks Jazz Age and the evolving role of women during that time. Selections include songs set to texts by New York poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, Lee Hoibys The Italian Lesson, and scenes from The Great Gatsby, Mitridate, Arabella, Mireille, Il Turco in Italia and Candide. Performers include sopranos Blair Cagney, Crystal Glenn, Ilana Goldberg, Jasmine Ismail, Evangelia Kingsley and Ellen Teufel; tenors Taicheng Li and Jose Verazquez, Jr; and bass Kofi Hayford, along with pianist Nobuko Amemiya, clarinetist Tyler Neidermayer, and stage directors Mike Cutler and Kaaron Briscoe. (Please note that the venue is only accessible by staircase.)
