One Godless Woman LIVE in Medicine Hat
Iman was born in England to a Saudi Surgeon & an Egyptian house wife
where she lived till the age of 9 then moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where she remained with her family till the age of 26 when she would leave for good.
She grew up in a conflict ridden, abusive and polygamous household. Subjugatelion, misogyny & routine violations of human rights were law inside & outside the house. Iman went to medical school by no choice of her own. She attended KSU (King Saud university) because her family had decided this. They also decided (the men of course) that she was to NOT get married. After graduating medical school in 2001 Iman set her goals on specializing in the field of Anesthesiology abroad because there was no training program for Anesthesia in Saudi. She passed the medical qualifying exams in 2002 after which she was quickly granted a scholarship to attend The specialist program in Halifax NS, Canada.
But not before tragedy struck...
By the age of 25 Iman had already been abducted once by the religious authorities, imprisoned 3 times and sentenced to 80 lashes without a trial.
She arrived in Canada in March 2003, after being disowned, and enrolled in a driving school where she finally learned how to drive, something unimaginable in Saudi Arabia. She began work as a training specialist at the QE2. Iman was the first female Anesthesia Saudi resident in Nova Scotia. She was sexually assaulted by another Saudi doctor who ironically knew her from the same hospital she worked at in Saudi.
Since arriving in Canada and discovering the taste of freedom Iman decided to speak up. She began a blog series titled Time for me to talk" (http://xsaudi.blogspot.com/?m=1) which quickly went viral in and outside of Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, women trying to escape muslim-majority life and subjugation reached out to her for help and she managed to help many Escape and others, plan their escape.
After the election of Justin Trudeau Iman began to hear the voices of extremism that she lived under in Saudi Arabia, take root in Canada. She then began a Podcast and YouTube channel called One Godless Woman embracing the pejorative the extremists used against her prior to fleeing the middle east.
