The Landscape of Guitar
Back for the third year since we re-opened the Amherst Opera House, Bruce and Julie of Patchouli create a unique musical experience for you. With the house lights down and Patchouli on stage, the 118 year old Amherst Opera House becomes a magical place. Truly a musical venue worth the time to experience. Thanks to the International Bank of Amherst for their support in providing this exceptional performance. Patchouli & Terra Guitarra: The Landscape of Guitar: Animated Painting Concert Experience
Guitars Take Flight around the World: From Wisconsin to Barcelona
The Wisconsin based and internationally touring duo, Patchouli & Terra Guitarra are returning for an encore performance to the historic stage of the Amherst Opera House on May 9th 2020.
Two years ago the AOH woke up after 48 years a slumber to a show to remember. Patchouli & Terra Guitarra brought their world class music and world class art together in the breathtaking Animated Painting Concert Experience, The Landscape of Guitar. They then flew around the world to Europe and China and back to the U.S. performing the show. May 9th Marks the two year anniversary celebration of Amherst Opera House Grand Reopening! The Landscape of Guitar is a groundbreaking art & music production. Animated paintings are sung to life as guitar birds fly over rolling guitar rivers and vivid guitar worlds in stunning HD. #1 Charting International guitar duo Awarded Best Instrumental Album of the Year Patchouli & Terra Guitarra create a live symphony of color & sound to inspire the human spirit Chicago Tribune. Experience the Spirit of the '60's & '70's, the romance of the Spanish guitar, and the colors of Van Gogh.
The duos instrumental guitar project, Terra Guitarra is reviewed as one of the top nuevo-flamenco groups in the world by Zone Music Reporter. The duo has four top 5 internationally charting albums and in May 2018 Terra Guitarras Of Sea & Stars won the award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year.
Patchouli, their singer/songwriter project, is a Public Radio favorite featuring sparkling lead vocals, beautiful duets and award winning compositions. The Chicago Tribune says inspires the human spirit.
Their world class musicianship is gorgeously amplified by the accompanying lush visual movement of the new Animated Painting Concert Experience, The Landscape of Guitar.
After 20 years of touring and 21 albums Guitarist/Artist Bruce Hecksel and poet/songtress Julie Patchouli created this original concept using Hecksels Terra Guitarra® acrylic paintings of guitar landscapes where every element is a guitar shape, colorfully glittering like stained glass. The duo animated and composed the paintings to flow with the music performance seamlessly, producing a living vibrant backdrop.
In 2018 The Landscape of Guitar quite literally took flight around the world touring theaters in the US, Europe and China, which included art exhibitions on 3 continents of the original paintings used in the production. Not only has this multi-talented duo gone global, but they take the audience with them in their musical and artistic journey through The Landscape of Guitar.
One will travel from their seat in Amherst to Barcelona, Stonehenge and other worlds where mermaids dive and faeries fly through the guitar constellations of the Milky Way. Soar with guitar wings over guitar canyons to fiery Spanish guitar pieces, like Malaguena. Walk guitar labyrinths in the guitar sunset through sweet vocal harmonies. Float on guitar clouds to the sound of Native American flutes and trek to the peaks of the guitar mountains with epic folk rock anthems.
And since its a New year, its a new show and new guitar landscapes to explore! New renovations at the Amherst Opera House too!
History of AOH
The Amherst Opera House was built in 1902. It served the village of Amherst as a venue for community gatherings for 68 years. In 1970 it was purchased and utilized for storage. For the past 48 years it has been boarded up and closed to all public access. In late 2017 it was acquired by The Amherst Opera House Co. Guild, a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation whose mission is to return it to use as a venue for community events and activities such as art and photography exhibits, poetry recitals, musical performances, storytelling, creative workshops and other public gatherings.
