One of the things I love about drawing people is the energy and vitality of the human form especially when theres a crowd. In this workshop we will focus on groups of people first by playing with different ways to depict people individually, then by watching and drawing as people gather in groups twosomes, threesomes, queues and crowds. Then well put people in their place by drawing the scene around them.
Learning goals:
After taking this workshop students will be able to: * Paint figures using simple brush strokes. * Focus on basic form to make impressions of people. * Place people in context with believable proportions. * Use values to distinguish people from context. * Blend shapes to create groups, then add distinctions as desired.
The outcome will be more confidence and inclination to include people in urban sketches. Students will learn to use different approaches in different sketching situations.
Supply list:
Required:
* Sketch paper (instructor will provide) * 1 4B or 6B pencil * 1 HB or mechanical pencil for pre-watercolor * 1 watercolor paint brush, size 10 or larger * 1 waterbrush * Water and water container * Paper towels for dabbing brushes * Watercolor set * Your favorite sketchbook for final sketch Jane Wingfield is an artist and urban sketcher in Olympia. She got her start at the Chicago Art Institute Childrens Program and later studied art at the University of Washington, Western Washington State University and Evergreen State College working in oil painting and printmaking. She also studied sumi-e painting in Tokyo. Being an urban sketcher has given her the gumption to come out of the closet, pull out her sketchbook and start sketching just about anywhere.
