Winter Mini Retreat
Give yourself space to ease the body and soothe the mind on this special winter mini-retreat
This retreat will offer an equal balance of gentle yoga for the body and spaciousness and calm for the mind, tucked around a break for warming herbal teas and tasty organic snacks.
Winter is a time to retreat and rejuvenate. Just as plants are dormant over winter, this mini retreat will gently nurture our body to support a healthy and flexible spine and joints using a blend of gentle flowing movement and a deeper surrendering. We will work with the bladder and kidney meridians running up and down the back and front of the body, easing into forward bends, back bends, twists and hip openers to help balance and soothe the body.
Physical practice will focus on easing stiffness in the spine and muscles in key joints such as hips, going slower and deeper, flowing on the breath. Winter yoga is a slow practice, attuned to the breath, working deeper with repetition and relaxing into postures, breathing away anxiety and tendencies to overwork or push, bringing steadiness, kindness, allowing a strong connection between body, mind and the present moment.
Enjoy a cup of warming herbal tea and delicious organic snacks before an indulgent and restorative second half. Pranayama (breathing techniques) to ground the body, enabling a restful balance and calm. Yoga nidra and meditation to still the mind and allow deep physical, mental and emotional relaxation. In my experience 20 minutes of yoga nidra feels like the equivalent of an hour's sleep. We will practise a delicious Himalayan nidra to restore energy and offer deep rest. The afternoon will end with quiet meditation.
