*********************************************** Directions to Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS): 1) By BART:
From San Francisco, take the Antioch line and transfer at 19th St. Oakland to the Richmond line. Exit at the Downtown Berkeley station, by the central escalator. Two charter buses that go directly to LHS will leave the Berkeley BART station every 15 minutes between 7:30 and 8:50, timed to coincide with BART train arrivals. The bus stop is on the east side of Shattuck Ave. at Center St., directly across Shattuck Ave. from the central escalator exit from the Bart station. A student volunteer will be stationed at the bus stop to help direct passengers to the proper bus. The buses will have 'Gilbert Club' signs in the windows. The bus stop will be on Center street in front of the Chase bank just around the corner from the BART Station. Please note that in previous years the pickup site was on Shattuck directly in front of the BART station, whereas this year it will be on Center Street. When registering for the meeting, please let us know if you anticipate taking the bus from BART to LHS in the morning. We expect that later buses may fill up quickly, so please consider arriving early. At the end of the meeting, a charter bus will also be available for the return trip to the Downtown Berkeley Bart station. The last bus will depart around 9:45 pm.
2) By car: Take the University Avenue exit off I-80 (which is also I-580). If you're coming from San Francisco, take the Bay Bridge, keep to the left to get on I-80 east (also known as I-580 west, actually heading north). After exiting the freeway, proceed east on University Ave. about 2 miles until it ends at Oxford Street, the west campus entrance. Do NOT enter campus but turn left on Oxford and then take the first right onto Hearst Avenue, which runs along the north perimeter of campus. The third stop light will be Gayley Road, turn right. Turn left at the first stop sign onto Stadium Rimway. Turn left at the next stop sign onto Centennial Drive. Climb the hill about 1 mile, LHS will be on your left, parking on both your right and left. Parking costs $1.00/hour. You need to pay at machines which are scattered about the parking lots, and located in the enclosure at the cross-walk leading to the LHS entrance. Make sure to note the number of your parking stall before leaving your car; the machines will ask for your parking stall number. You can pay with cash, credit card, or by phone app; the machines do not provide change. You will receive a receipt at the machine, but you do NOT need to return to your car to display the receipt.
3) If you miss the charter bus and don't have a car: You can take public transit to the Lawrence Hall of Science. Take the BART to Downtown Berkeley station, then a bus to the Lawrence Hall of Science. From San Francisco, take the Antioch line on BART and transfer at 19th St. Oakland to the Richmond line. Exit at the Downtown Berkeley station, by the central escalator.
AC Transit Bus Line 65 goes from from the Downtown Berkeley BART Station to the Lawrence Hall of Science. The bus stop is on the east side of Shattuck Ave., at the corner of Center St., directly across Shattuck Ave. from the central escalator exit from the BART station. Bus line 65 departs at 30 minutes past the hour on Saturdays and arrives at the Lawrence Hall of Science 23 minutes later. The fare for AC transit is $2.50 (exact change required). For people who need to leave the meeting early, Line 65 departs the Lawrence Hall of Science at 55 minutes after the hour, arriving at the downtown Berkeley BART at about 20 minutes after the hour. The last bus leaves the Lawrence Hall of Science at 6:55 pm. Additional information is available at www.actransit.org.
