Finding Home: Concerts That Matter Exploring Migrations: Westward Bound Icelands History in Western Canada
The International Festival of Song and Chamber Music Society presents a three day festival of musical and literary connections between Iceland and Western Canada featuring Icelands Trio Sírajón presenting two unique concerts. Also featured: Icelandic film, Tears of A Stone, an intimate look at the life of composer Jón Leifs World premiere of songs by Alberta composer Cheryl Cooney based on the poetry of Albertas most famous Icelandic poet, Stephan G. Stephansson, who lived in Markerville, Alberta (www.stephanssonhouse.ca) Panel discussion: Migrant art, music and literature (Time to be announced check website for details)
MAY 2, 2020: Trio Sírajón will be performing music by Poulenc, Darius Milhaud, Menotti, Arutiunian, and Icelandic composers.
MAY 3, 2020: Film: Icelandic Film Tears of a Stone, an intimate look at the life of composer Jón Leifs World premiere: premiere of songs by Alberta composer Cheryl Cooney based on the poetry of Albertas most famous Icelandic poet, Stephan G. Stephansson, who spent most of his life farming in Markerville, Alberta.
MAY 4, 2020: Trio Sírajón presents music by Khachaturian, Ives, Piazzolla and a selection of Icelandic composers.
