Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work
Thanks to the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work's subsidy of over 25% of the course fee, we are pleased to be able to offer the ASIST workshop to MSW students at a significantly reduced rate. Thank you the FIFSW for supporting student education and helping to create suicide-safer communities.

What is ASIST?
It is an intensive and comprehensive suicide intervention training course, designed to meet the needs of experienced and non-experienced participants, and those with lived experience.

Workshop highlights:

Information and guidance from registered trainers
An evidence-based intervention model
Useful captioned audiovisual learning material
Group activities and debrief
Skills practice and development
A learning environment and facilitators that balance challenge and safety

Participant materials include a workbook, wallet card, ASIST helper stickers, resource information, and a certificate upon workshop completion.

How do I get my certificate?
Both workshop days must be attended.
Upon completion of all course hours (9a-5p across two days), a certificate from LivingWorks will be awarded.

Details:
When: October 31 & November 1, 2019
Time: 9a-5p
Where: FIFSW, rooms 422 & 320
# of participants: 30 maximum

Does ASIST expire?
No. The ASIST certification does not expire.
It is suggested that after certification, folks refresh or retake the program every 2/3yrs or as needed. The program continues to be updated according to the research and participant feedback.

The course was developed by the Canadian organization LivingWorks in 1983, and is regularly updated to reflect developments in theory and practice. ASIST is the world's leading suicide intervention workshop, and is quickly becoming a required and internationally recognized certification in the helping professions. During the two-day interactive session, participants learn concrete skills to intervene and help prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The focus of the workshop is helping people at risk keep safe for now. More than 1,000,000 people have attended workshops and obtained ASIST certification. Studies show that the ASIST approach helps reduce suicidal feelings for those at risk.
