2019 WSU Wheat Academy
December 10 & 11: The Wheat Academy offers hands-on learning.
PULLMAN, Wash. Two days of comprehensive, hands-on learning await participants of the annual WSU Wheat Academy. Growers and industry professionals from all over the Pacific Northwest are invited to the WSU Pullman campus on December 10 and 11 to learn about disease diagnostics, insect pest management, herbicide decisions, nutrient management, and much more directly from the experts during intensive, 90-minute sessions.
The Wheat Academy will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 10 and will be held in the teaching laboratories of the Vogel Plant Bioscience Building on the WSU Pullman campus. Registration is $75 for growers and $150 for industry representatives. Registration is limited to the first 75 registrants. The registration fee covers parking on campus, two lunches, a catered social hour, and light refreshments throughout the two-day event. Registration will open on October 8. During the Academy, participants will get to select eight sessions to attend out of the twelve available. There will be six sessions each day from which to choose. This year's sessions are:
-Diversifying the Wheat Portfolio of the PNW -Managing Soil Acidification & Exploring the Economic Feasibility of Liming in the Inland Pacific Northwest -Oilseeds and Roots -Diagnosing and Managing Plant Diseases of Wheat -How Tillage, No-till, and Surface Residue Influence Soil Water Storage -Wheat Growth & Development -Identifying and Managing Insect Pests on the Farm -Market Strategy Development -Soil Nutrients, Deficiencies, and Plant Health -Pulse Disease Management -Herbicide Injury -Macrofauna & Soil Health: Getting to know our below-ground partners in PNW wheat systems
Washington and Idaho Pesticide Recertification credits will be available for four sessions which are, Diagnosing and Managing Plant Diseases of Wheat, Identifying and Managing Pests on the Farm, Pulse Disease Management and Herbicide Injury. CCA CEU's will be available for all sessions.
