CARMINHO
CARMINHO
CARMINHO is the rising star of fado and one of the most internationally celebrated Portuguese artists of the new generation. As the daughter of the renowned fado singer, Teresa Siqueira, she began singing in public at the age of 12.
Fado, her first album, was released in 2009 and became the most acclaimed album of the year, reaching platinum status as well as being named the best album of 2011 by Songlines magazine. In the same year, she collaborated with Pedro Alborán and became the first Portuguese artist to debut at number one on the Spanish charts. In 2012 her next album, Alma, debuted at number one in sales in Portugal and this led to performances in major cities of Europe, South America, and Asia. While performing in Brazil, she was able to realize her dreams of recording with Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, and Nana Caymmi. By the end of 2014, she released Canto and her relationship with Brazil took on an even deeper meaning as the album included collaborations with such artists as Caetano Veloso and Marisa Monte. In 2016, following an invitation by the family of Antônio Carlos Jobim, Carminho recorded Carminho Sings Tom Jobim, accompanied by the band which performed with Jobim during the last 10 years of his life.
Carminhos current release, MARIA, is the most personal one and contains some of her own compositions. MARIA will be officially released in North America on September 27 by NONESUCH/WARNER Records to coincide with the concert tour.
