The Middlesex District Dental Society dinner meeting will include a presentation on Challenges of the New Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Law.
Course Overview:As an employer, you may be wondering what you need to do now and in the future to meet the challenges of the new Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave Act (PFMLA). For example, can you confidently answer "yes" to all of the following statements: By 9/30/19, our company will be in full compliance with the PFMLA's notice provisions and we'll have the required documentation to prove it; Our company knows which of our workers, including our contractors, are and are not eligible for PFMLA benefits; As of 10/1/19, our company will be ready to start making payroll withholdings of PFMLA contributions for those eligible workers and to remit those contributions by 1/31/2020.
Learning Objective: To understand the notice obligations of PFML; To understand which employees and workers will be covered by PFML; To understand PFML payroll withholdings and how to make them; To begin to anticipate how protected leave will work and to prepare yourselves accordingly
Speaker Bios: Catherine E. Reuben provides counseling, training, and litigation defense for employers in labor and employment matters. She is a member of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. She is ranked by Super Lawyers as one of the top 50 women lawyers and top 100 lawyers in Massachusetts, and one of the top 100 lawyers in New England. She is also ranked in Chambers USA and Best Lawyers for employment law.
Richard S. Loftus's practice includes advising employers to help them navigate an increasingly complex universe of employment laws and regulations to help minimize their exposure to risk. Richs experience includes advising a wide range of entities on subjects such as wage and hour compliance, Family and Medical Leave and the Massachusetts Sick Leave law, antidiscrimination laws at both the federal and state level, employment contracts, restrictive covenants and noncompetition agreements, and other employment-related issues. Rich also focuses his practice on litigating matters at the trial, appellate, and administrative levels, with a particular emphasis on wage and hour and employment discrimination defense.
