An Evening with Matuto
Music at Lily Pads, in collaboration with Meadowbrook Waldorf School is proud to present a special musical event, An Evening with Matuto on Saturday, October 12 at 7:30pm. This New York based band plays a brilliant hybrid of Brazilian and American roots music, with exceptional musicianship, eminently danceable rhythms, and the exuberant and uplifting songs of guitarist/band leader Clay Ross. Matuto is described by the Chicago Tribune as "seductively cross-cultural,"while the Chicago Sun Times raves "this band aims for the heights of world-music sophistication." The band recently returned from a US State Department tour of Africa as part of the American Music Abroad program, played a homecoming concert at New York City's Lincoln Center, and were pronounced Cultural Ambassadors for the city of New York by Mayor Bloomberg. Style Weekly calls the band "blazingly tight."
What wide-ranging Americana and jazz guitarist Clay Ross and accordionist Rob Curto, one of the movers behind New York's Forró For All (when not touring with folks like Lila Downs and David Krakauer) began as a curious exploration of their shared musical loves, Matuto has blossomed into a platform for expressing broad truths, ideas inspired by Buddhist sutras, personal epiphanies, and the musicians' down-home upbringings.
Music at Lily Pads just celebrated its 3rd anniversary bringing fine performances to the Village of Peace Dale. Concerts take place in the acoustically superior UUCSC sanctuary in the Lily Pads Professional Center at 27 North Road, Peace Dale. The venue is alcohol-free, and has become known as an up-and-coming venue in Rhode Island, bringing musically diverse and high quality entertainment to enthusiastic audiences throughout the year.
