Turning the Ship Around Wading through the Plastic Seas
A lot of single use packaging is a problem in our discard stream. Markets have tightened as a result of China's National Sword policy. 957 Recycling Centers have closed across the state since 2013. Legislative fixes, such as Senate Bills 54 and 634 and Assembly Bill 1080 failed to pass this legislative session. Now what?
The Global Recycling Council of the California Resource Recovery Association, the Gold Rush Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America, and the California Refuse Recycling Council are sponsoring a workshop series addressing problem markets and single use packaging.
The first workshop held in March 2019 was a call to action. The June 2019 workshop focused on the local solutions that communities, haulers, processors and manufacturers can implement. This workshop will focus on state policy solutions and updates on state legislation.
