Santa Monica Museum of Art Willow Weaving Workshop
This workshop is open to ages 6 to adult and is held in conjunction with the museum exhibition "Martin Kersels: Heavyweight Champion" (on view Sept 13 to December 13, 2008)

Weave objects from Danish willow with artist and master weaver Steen Madsen, who collaborated with Martin Kersels in the creation of "Dionysian Stage," a sculpture on view in the exhibition "Heavyweight Champion."

Steen Madsen is a basken maker from Denmark. For 30 years, he has perfected the time-honored techniques of fine basket weaving with the noble grade of willow grown in his country. In addition to teaching across Scandinavia and Los Angeles, Madsen collaborates with artists, like Martin Kersels, to make large-scale sculptures and land art with willow branches. www.steen-madsen.dk
