Truth or Lie: The Winnetka Edition
We are so pleased to host a special edition of the Truth or Lie, Chicago's only LIVE LIT show that showcases non-fiction and fiction stories and tellers, bridging the gap between storytelling and theater. Can you tell when someone is lying?  Hosted by two-time Moth Grand Slam Champion Sarah Bunger, Truth or Lie features six story tellers spinning true or fictive tales and leaving the audience to wonder (and vote)--was this the truth or a lie?

Stories are funny, poignant and quick-paced!  Customers who like The Moth Radio Hour on NPR and other live storytelling are going to love this event.

Tickets include entry, refreshments, and special in-store discounts and giveaways. Don't like the internet?  No worries, pick up the phone and call The Book Stall at 847-446-8880 and we can sell you tickets during one quick call.

If you have been with us for our previous Book Stall After Hours shows--Its much the same format as Comedy Night, The Kates, or the Youre Being Ridiculous evenings weve hosted, meaning you'll laugh, you'll have fun, and you'll connect with friends, neighbors, and storytellers over the shared power of narrative.

Meet the Cast:

Our Host: Sarah Bunger grew up in one of the smallest towns imaginable outside of Dayton, Ohio (think: flashing caution light, a gas station/Subway sandwich shop, and lots and lots of cows). Since moving to the big city eleven years ago, she is adjusting to the long winters and nearly complete lack of cows. In addition to directing the Community Engagement program at a school in the city, she hosts Truth or Lie Reading Series, which is generally the first Sunday of the month at Firecat Projects. She has been a featured teller at You're Being Ridiculous, Story Jam, First Person Live, This Much is True and WBEZ's New Year's Eve celebration. She is a two-time Moth Grand Slam Champion and has been featured on The Moth Radio Hour and podcast.

Paula Carter is the author of the flash memoir collection No Relation. Her essays have appeared in The New York Times, Kenyon Review, The Southern Review, Prairie Schooner, Creative Nonfiction, and elsewhere. Based in Chicago, she is a part of the live lit community and is a company member with the storytelling group 2nd Story. She teaches creative writing at Northwestern University.

Kevin Gladish has been telling true stories onstage in Chicago for a number of years and lying about all kinds of stuff since he was a kid. Needless to say, he is quite happy to be invited back to this show.  Kevin has performed at such venues as You're Being Ridiculous, Story Sessions, This Much is True, Story Club,, That's All She Wrote, and The Moth Grand Slam. He's also acted in a bunch of plays and writes a blog called A Story With No Beginning about his experience as a late discovery adoptee finding his birth family. When he's not proofing medical journal articles by day, he's drinking too much coffee, surfing Chicago's late night diners, and trying to write the very strange and very true story of his life despite more than occasional writer's block. Helpful suggestions are welcome.

David Himmel is a Lisagor Award-winning journalist and literary mercenary. His books include The Last DJ and A Camp Story. His short stories have been published in literary collections and magazines. He is the co-editor of the literary digital magazine Literate Ape and co-host of its podcast, the Literate ApeCast. Himmel co-wrote the forthcoming short film Enter the Mollusk, was head writer on the award-winning web series Greetings! From Prison, and is the former editor in chief of Chicago Health magazine. He lives in Chicago with a wife, child, and dog. davidhimmel.com

Annalise Raziq runs the gamut. She is a three-time Moth Story Slam winner and had a story featured on the national storytelling show "The Moth Radio Hour" (and available on their podcast). She was recently a featured storyteller at Chicago Public Medias fundraising gala at the Four Seasons, and has also told stories for Risk!, 80 Minutes Around the World, Story Jam, Truth or Lie, the Boston Palestine Film Festival, the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, and the Palestinians Podcast. She is pleased to have been part of the film Obstacle Course and the holiday show Christmas Mubarak with Silk Road Rising, and also recently played Amal Kafiz in the independent film Green Summer. She is a writer and improviser, and used these skills to help create the show Sisters Rising with a group of formerly incarcerated women. Annalise sings professionally in a variety of venues and her solo show "I Know A Place," a memory play with a live band onstage, was part of the Fillet of Solo Festival. She is currently in rehearsal for the comedy Twice, Thrice, Frice, which opens in October at Silk Road Rising theatre.
