Deeper and Deeper: Storytelling with Costume & Building Character for Burlesque
A 2 hour Intensive. Learn to utilize costume pieces & add depth to your characters, to enhance your story on stage.
We will
Explore methods of creating an interesting character.
Discuss making effective choices on what to wear.
Practice with costume, to engage your audience with their presence and removal.
Have ample time to discuss individual questions.
This workshop will be composed of brief lectures, practical exercises, & easy movement.
Dress comfortably.
Please bring:
- A removable garment (e.g. button-down shirt, sweater, hat, scarf)
- Your favored method of recording your thoughts.
Instructor J.D. Hickcock was titled King of Sin from the 2017 Sin City Burlesque Festival (Las Vegas, NV) and named King of Burlesque at the 2015 San Antonio Burlesque Festival. He has been a Headliner of numerous productions, including the 2019 KC Nerdlesque Festival (Kansas City, MO), Holiday at Hogwarts: The Tour with Her Sins Burlesque & Cabaret (2017, 2018), the inaugural 2016 Texas Queerlesque Festival (Dallas, TX), & the 2016 San Antonio Burlesque Festival. In 2019, J.D. was given the distinct honor and privilege of performing in the Movers, Shakers, & Innovators showcase for the Burlesque Hall of Fame (Las Vegas, NV).
In addition to performing in burlesque, J.D. maintains a twenty-year career in costuming for opera, theatre, and dance. With his class offerings, he shares his ideas, practices, tips, and tricks to help inform his students use of two important aspects of burlesque- Creativity and Clothing.
