A Tribute to Jessye Norman
A TRIBUTE TO JESSYE NORMAN
Tues, Nov 12 @ 7:30pm
$15 adv / $25 day of

Join soprano Victoria Williams accompanied by pianist Hope Armstrong Erb as they pay tribute to the memory of the great Jessye Norman, one of the most versatile singers and inspirational musicians the world has known. Hear timeless and beloved African-American spirituals, art songs, and arias from musical theater, opera, and oratorio, as well as stories from the life of Jessye Norman and how the world has been shaped by her wit, wisdom, strength, and love.

Soprano Victoria Williams, a Richmond native currently based in DC, is well-versed in multiple genres while specializing in classical voice. She studied at VCU with Wayne Batty and Lisa Edwards Burrs. An award-winning singer, Victoria is a frequent soloist in DC area churches, and is an active member of the Aria Club of Greater Washington. Performance credits include: Once On This Island (Asaka), Die Fledermaus (Rosalinda), The Mikado (Katisha), TEDxRVA (2016) and soloist in Handels Messiah and Mozarts Requiem. Victoria is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree at the University of the District of Columbia in Voice Performance, studying with Dr. Nelda C. Ormond, with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology.

Pianist Hope Armstrong Erb will tell you her favorite music is whatever she is performing right now.  Known locally as pianist, harpsichordist, teacher, conductor and composer, she has performed throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Asia, and Africa in a wide range of genres  vocal and instrumental chamber music, sacred and secular choral and orchestral masterworks, opera, musical theater, jazz, folk, world music, and new music premieres. Proclaimed a wonder in her ability to maintain a high standard in both performance and teaching, Hope also offers private instruction in piano, voice, theory, and composition, and coaches and accompanies instrumentalists and vocalists for auditions and competitions.

Twenty years ago this duo began as teacher-student in the Greater Richmond Children's Choir, where Hope, as founding director, gave a young chorister Victoria an opportunity to create a good vocal foundation. They are thrilled to bring their music-making to this new professional level and share these songs they love.
