About the Film
A contemporary tragedy of epic proportions. This is the first and only fictional film in the Humanise season so far. The film follows Daniel Blake as he navigates contemporary working Britain. It shows the profoundly dehumanising welfare system we live with and it's conseqences.
Why was it chosen for the series?
The film was suggested by one of our Humanise Film Club members. He is from Iran and says that the cruelty of this system is reflected in systems around the world. How can we make this system more human?
About the location
Screenings are in the Engine Room on platform one. Doors open 6pm, film starts promptly at 7pm. There is a wheelchair accessible entrance but please let us know if you have any questions about access.
The Humanise Community Film Club is a research project by Liverpool-based artist Aleasha Chaunte.
In an age of intolerance, in which we seem to have forgotten the skills needed to live with people who are different from us, this film series is an opportunity to relearn them. Each screening will be accompanied by conversation and a little food. We will also be bringing relevant guest speakers who can offer some context for each film.
Let's Humanise each other.
