Dark Days (2000) Film Screening + Post-Show Discussion
About the film City streets are harsh places to live. Everyday cruelty, punitive laws and the built environment make street homelessness dangerous. Director Marc Singer spent time with an a group of people who made their home in the relative safety of a subway tunnel. What emerges is a picture of people slowly trying to get back on their feet.
Why was it chosen for the series? Aleasha says "This is my last pick. It is a film that makes me remember to treat everyone with respect because you don't know what they are dealing with. It also makes me think about the economics of homelessness when we live in a world that dictates that our public spaces are owned and must be managed in a particular way.
About the location Screenings are in the Engine Room on platform one. Doors open 6pm, film starts promptly at 7pm. There is a wheelchair accessible entrance but please let us know if you have any questions about access.
The Humanise Community Film Club is a research project by Liverpool-based artist Aleasha Chaunte.
In an age of intolerance, in which we seem to have forgotten the skills needed to live with people who are different from us, this film series is an opportunity to relearn them. Each screening will be accompanied by conversation and a little food. We will also be bringing relevant guest speakers who can offer some context for each film.
Let's Humanise each other.
