Let's Talk About Hoarding and the Fair Housing Law
The extreme form of hoarding is now a distinct psychiatric disorder, defined in the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-5. In 2013, Hoarding along with several other mental disorders was added to the DSM-5. Though it is a disorder that has manifested itself for many years, hoarding mainly came to our collective attention due to shows such as Hoarders and Hoarding: Buried Alive.
In many cases, hoarding results from trauma...the loss of a loved one, divorce, rape, abuse, witnessing a very violent act. Those who are involved with hoarding did not do so intentionally.
This workshop is designed to share information about this disability and how housing providers should proceed when there is a resident that is hoarding on the property. We invite you to join us for the informational workshop.
