October 17, 2013 - Tales from the Vault - Major Gift Ups and Downs (Lunch)

Presenter:  Adrian B. Cain, Director of Development, Lowcountry Open Land Trust in Charleston, SC

Raising major gifts does have its ups and downs!  Join us for the October session of AFP where Adrian Cain, Director of Development of the Lowcountry Open Land Trust, will share key gifts and insights learned in closing major gifts at organizations ranging from Carnegie Mellon to the South Carolina Aquarium.  The organizations may vary in size but the gifts and building the key relationships are very similar.  If you or your organization are looking to expand or even start a major gift program this is a session you don't want to miss!

With over 12 years in the development field Adrian is an experienced relationship manager and nonprofit leader. Most recently serving as the Director of Institutional Advancement at the South Carolina Aquarium. Adrian provided leadership and oversight for the development, membership, sales, and special events departments. Accounting annually for over $4.5 million, Adrian was able to deliver record revenue results while streamlining operations.

He began his career in development working for Marshall University in the midst of a $100 million capital campaign. Adrian then joined Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and served in several integral roles during a successful $1 Billion comprehensive campaign. During his tenure, Cain's analytical and quantitative skills were essential to the early development and prospect strategy for the now completed $100 million Advanced Nano Technology Research Center.

Adrian has also extensively lectured on numerous topics ranging from optimizing philanthropic relationships to change management in nonprofits. He is an active volunteer in various organizations including the Charleston Ocean Racing Association, Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Parks conservancy, Lowcountry AFP Board, and numerous other organizations.
