Duplicity

You could say Phoenix is new around here, if by here you mean Duplicity, an online game that allows people to create a better version of themselves. Phoenix quickly travels and falls in love, but Ash, her Maker, cannot possibly allow this. Ash has too much at stake: a soon-to-be award winning internet program, and a budding relationship with Mady, who just moved across the country to be with her. However, Ashs life is not the only one threatening to fall apart. As Tre, Phoenixs new boyfriend, experiences a sudden and troubling decline in health, he hurries to share the Truth--that elite rulers are responsible for a series of mysterious disappearances.
