I and You presented by Westridge Theatre
Caroline hates school, just as much as she hates her chronic liver disease that wont let her be there. A boy named Anthony arrives unexpectedly and barges into Carolines room quoting Walt Whitman and bearing an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Caroline especially hates poetry. Theres about a million things shed rather be doing than this assignment. But when Anthony bursts into dramatic recitation of Whitmans Leaves of Grass, it grabs Carolines attention, and she begins, slowly, to let Anthony in. Before she knows it, theyve delved head-first into the English class project, and Walt Whitman has all but swept her off her feet.

Caroline is quick and sardonic; Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets  she shares her artsy photos with him, they talk about facing death, they share waffle fries and listen to music  this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. Before the evening is over, another strange twist in the story is revealed to the audience, leading to a genuinely stunning and heart-warming conclusion.

Written in 2014 by Lauren Gunderson, this lively two-character study in adolescent confusions and cosmic mysteries is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.

Seating is general admission. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
