Saina
Saina is an indigenous singer from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia. She comes from a mixed heritage of native Siberian people, the Sakha and the Evenk. Saina performs songs that have been passed down through generations. She studied with tribal elders throughout Siberia, and she strives to maintain the authentic tone and intonation of these ancient songs. Saina sings in the traditional style and plays instruments like the khomus and the shamanic drum. Her repertoire is a rich illustration of the Siberian landscape. The themes range from shamanic rituals and celebratory songs to simple tunes that accompanied the everyday life of Siberian nomadic peoples. Saina has presented the culture of her ancestors in the USA, Canada, Mongolia, China, Spain, France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria and more.
