An evening with MOKSHA
Moksha is the combination of exciting Pakistani singer/harmonium player, Sukhawat Ali Khan, and multi-instrumentalist didgeridoo master, Stephen Kent, (both of the acclaimed Bay Area band, Baraka Moon) in a new duo format that showcases their extraordinary abilities in music combining global traditions, songs and sounds from the Indian Subcontinent, Australia and Africa.
Sukhawat Ali Khan Son of the legendary Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Baraka Moons charismatic and passionate Vocalist draws from his luminary family's 600 year-old Subcontinental singing tradition with a voice that comes straight from the heart and soars to the heavens. He can also be heard squeezing and cajoling sweet ragas and shredding blues riffs from his harmonium.
Stephen Kent In a career that spans over 3 decades the one-man-band Didgeridoo/Percussion virtuoso is a globally-acclaimed pioneer in bringing the ancient Aboriginal instrument to the contemporary world. Both as a solo artist and collaboration with myriad other great musicians he tours the world and released over 30 albums. Stephen is also an influential presence on the radio, hosting KPFAs Music of the World since 1995.
