As part of UCLA's William Andrews Clark Memorial Library's Arts on the Grounds Contemporary@theClark series, Artistic Director Annie Loui and the Counter-Balance Theater company will blend movement and dance in an adaptation of Pär Lagerkvist's Nobel Prize-winning novel, The Dwarf.
In this physical theater adaptation, set outside on the East lawn against the backdrop of the Clark Library, six actors portray myriad characters, including animals, architecture and furniture.
The story, renowned for its provocative examination of human nature, features Piccolino, the resident dwarf of a great Renaissance Prince, who shares his journal with the audience. The moral contradiction of the "rebirth of civilization" are observed and evaluated by the Dwarf, and chaos ensues when he finally decides to take action.
On-site parking is available.
We invite you to come an hour early to the grounds and picnic on the lawn.
We look forward to seeing you at the Arts on the Grounds!
