Annual Lavender Harvest Work Weekend
June is one of the busiest months of the year on Eatwell Farm. Tomato plants are heavy with fruit, the strawberry fields abundant with luscious red berries, and the fields of lavender burst into bloom. The lavender harvest is vital to the farm as it provides a very important source of income during the winter months, but it takes many hands to complete. We would like to invite CSA members to join us for the weekend harvest to cut, assemble and hang as much lavender as we can use throughout the year. Those who help will be compensated for their time in CSA credit or cash.

LAVENDER HARVESTING, FOOD & FUN
We look forward to the lavender harvest all year long. The calming scent of the blooms fills the summer breeze, bees drunk on lavender pollen lazily buzz from flower to flower, and the sound of crew members singing can be heard in the fields. It's wholesome, enjoyable work.

This year we will harvest the lavender, eat large, family-style farm-cooked meals, and camp out on the farm together for a full weekend of lavender, good work, food and fun. We imagine this will be much like the grape harvests in France, where all hands are working to bring in the harvest and then break bread together at long tables set with farm-fresh meals.

HOW WE'LL HARVEST TOGETHER
The full time farm crew will work ahead of the lavender crew and will use the hedge trimmers to cut the lavender. The lavender crew will follow behind and bunch the lavender with rubber bands and place them in piles in the truck. When the bed of the truck is full of lavender, it will be driven to the drying house where more helpers will unload it and hang it to dry. Harvesting lavender is good, enjoyable work that requires nimble hands for putting bands around lavender bunches, bending and twisting, and time spent standing and walking in the sun. There is no heavy lifting involved. It will be satisfying work in a sea of scented lavender blooms.

We cannot do this without the help of CSA members. Lavender Harvest Crew members must commit to a full weekend of work including BOTH Saturday from 7am to 6pm and Sunday from 7am to 12pm. Camping is available on the farm to accommodate the early start times on Saturday and Sunday morning. Those who work will be fed deliciously prepared farm-fresh meals and compensated for their time on the farm.
