About the Event:
A true East-West cross-pollination, Boots' composition and performance style for shakuhachi -- the rare & difficult root-end bamboo flute of Japanese Zen Buddhism -- is rooted in the deep past and leaning hard into the emerging future. Ranging from virtuosic and energetic to meditative and subtle, this 100% breath-powered album release concert will feature robust solo performances on a range of flute sizes. Drawing on diverse musical styles and sources, the program presents original compositions, ancient Zen honkyoku, and some rock, blues and kung fu theme cover song arrangements. A few guests will join for duo and trio formations in the second half of the concert.
