Tartuffe
Newport High School Drama presents Molieres classic satire about Orgon, a man who takes his devotion to the seemingly-religious Tartuffe to absurd extremes. Tartuffe exploits Orgons gullibility with outrageous lies and hypocritical behavior, leading to near-disastrous consequences for Orgon and his family. First performed for Louis XIV of France in 1664, Tartuffe has been frequently performed (and occasionally banned) ever since. Witty dialogue, biting social commentary, and beautiful 17th century costumes make Tartuffe a treat for modern audiences.
