The Gospel of Mark
The complete Gospel of Mark will be presented by Rev. Shannon Rye Wall on Saturday, May 4 at 2 pm. All are invited to experience the three-year ministry of Jesus, told only in the words of scripture, and told with all the words of scripture. Expect Aha! moments, surprising stories, and new insights.
Gospel means good news. The four Gospels are Christian sacred texts that tell the story of Jesus life and ministry. "The Gospel According to Mark" is widely believed to be the earliest one written, and most scholars think that Matthew and Luke's Gospels used "Mark" as a source. Fast-moving, vivid in its details, and at times even funny, "Mark" shows Jesus at his most human. It focuses on his relationship with his disciples and his obedience to God.
For decades after Jesus death and resurrection, the stories of his life and teaching were handed down orally--by the spoken word. Before many in the population could read, they heard the good news. This performance, presented from memory, is a chance to hear the scriptures as they were first proclaimed.
People of all faith traditions (and no faith background) are welcome. The presentation is recommended for adults and children age 10 and older at their parents discretion. A Q&A session will follow.
Rev. Shannon Wall is Acting Pastor of the First Congregational Church of New Milford (United Church of Christ). She previously served at the South Britain Congregational Church in Southbury,CT and the First Congregational Church of Darien,CT. She is a graduate of Yale Divinity School, where she won awards for scripture reading and preaching; and of the Graduate Acting program at New York University.
### There is no charge for this presentation. A freewill offering will be collected. If you would like more information about this event, please call the church at 757-229-6688, or email office@saintstephenlutheran.net.
