Identity Heft: Crafting Meaningful Mission, Vision and Value Statements
Do you have a mission that misses the mark?  Or one that could use a breath of fresh air? Have you been meaning to fill the void of a missing identity statement but stuck in the day to day?

Communicating the Who, What, Why and How of your organization or project is elemental. Getting the word out well can organically generate interest and excitement  and ultimately, investment and advocacy.

Yet, all too often, crafting active statements of identity gets shuffled to the bottom of the to-do list. Once finally refined, however, these are not only the core of your group's sense of self and purpose. They are powerful tools that direct long and short-term decision making, drive fundraising approaches and act as your north star for future endeavors. Check them off your list with us!

This workshop will discuss the role, definition and anatomy of the three standard identity statements: vision, mission and values.  We will look at best practices for composing and editing these statements and review how to engage leaders, staff, board and community in the process. Reviewing examples from local and national nonprofits brings real-world examples to the forefront. A structured exercise geared to help groups consider their mission statements together will help you compose anew and make edits that will kick the language up a notch.

These statements are a clarifying lens through which to approach strategic and operations planning. The more minds around the mission, the better  come with members of your group to tackle this important work and apply what you craft to the rest of the tasks ahead.
