Deconstructed is an evening-length performance that takes a look at the process of choreography from the inside out. Artistic Director Jennifer Backhaus, along with company dancers, decode the methods they used to create the company's most recent work The Elasticity of the Almost. In this work, which was recently premiered to a full house at the Carpenter Center in Long Beach, the dancers maneuver a stage filled with thousands of red balls. During the performance, the work will be teased apart, live, onstage, into its most essential elements and then re-formed, allowing the audience a deeper look into the structure and intention of the dance.
Deconstructed is presented as part of the culmination of the annual Backhausdance Summer Intensive. The two-week students will be performing three selections of repertory works they have workshopped over the course of the intensive.
