Best of Philly Magazine Market Tour and Tasting
Best of Philly Magazine award-winning Reading Terminal Market stands are the focus of this special Taste of Philly Food Tour and Tasting at Reading Terminal Market in downtown Philadelphia, at 2 p.m. on July 27 and 31. The two-hour events, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Philadelphia Magazine's annual awards for the best things to see, do and eat in Greater Philadelphia, will cover the fascinating history and culture of Reading Terminal (a Best of Philly winner for Best Market) and learn about and enjoy bite-size tastes of winning foods at eight Best of Philly-winning Market merchants before retreating to the Market's Rick Nichols Room for sampling of additional Best of Philly award-winning dishes.
Participating winning merchants include Bassetts (ice cream), Miller's Twist (pretzels), Beiler's Bakery (whoopie pies), Fair Food Farmstand, Metropolitan Bakery (bread), Termini Bakery (cannolis), Downtown Cheese, Beck's Cajun Kitchen (train wreck sandwich), Salumeria (hoagies), Chocolate by Mueller's (nonpareils), 12th Street Cantina (guacamole), 4th Street (chocolate chip cookies) and the Pennsylvania General Store (chocolate-covered potato chips).
Tours will leave from the Market Information Desk, 12th and Filbert streets. Cost is $19 for adults and $13 for kids ages 11 and older, which includes all food samples. Advanced reservations required. Sales are final and nonrefundable. This tour is an afternoon Best of Philly variation on the Market's bi-weekly morning Taste of Philly walking tours, which focuses on signature Philly foods, and is offered at 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday, including July 27 and 31.

Note: Two hours of reduced rate parking available at the Parkway Garage, 12th and Filbert (entrance on 12th between Arch and Filbert) or the Hilton Garage, 11th and Arch, with a $10 Market purchase. Reading Terminal is a covered, indoor market that is air-conditioned in the summer and so tours are held rain or shine.
