Vashon Beach Naturalist Course
Course Description: Learn beach critter secrets! Meet nudibranchs face to face! Join a cadre of professional marine scientists and Vashon Beach Naturalists for an intensive and fun course where you will learn everything about beaches on Vashon. This course is a combination of evening classes with guest lecturers and hands-on field trips with experienced Beach Naturalists that teach you identification of beach life in person.
Five Wednesday evening (6:30-8:30) class sessions combined with four Saturday low-tide field trips to a variety of Vashon beaches. Specific course dates are:
Lectures: Wednesdays 6:30-8:30 on 4/24, 5/8, 5/22, 6/5, 6/19
Field Trips: 10:30-1:30 on 5/4, 5/19, 6/1, 6/15 optional 10:30 on 6/5.
At course completion you will be a certified Beach Naturalist with a solid basic understanding of how our beaches function and what lives on them. You will be able to lead beach walks for Vashon Nature Center events, birthday parties, school groups, or just your friends or yourself!
Participants completing the course will receive a Beach Naturalist certificate from Vashon Nature Center.
Pricing: $225/person; + $75/ child 12 and over with registered adult;
OR choose to volunteer 25 hours as a Beach Naturalist or on community science projects through Vashon Nature Center after course completion and take the course for just the $40 materials fee.
