GASPING WHITENESS: Saturday March 2nd at 2 pm
GASPING WHITENESS is a play and community workshop exploring white supremacy's impact on parenting in progressive, middle class communities.  It tells the stories of two families (one white and one African-American) and is performed as a staged reading by a cross-racial, cross-generational ensemble.

GASPING WHITENESS runs one hour and is followed by a one hour facilitated dialogue, designed to explore how the themes of the play speak to our lives and our stories.

The GASPING WHITENESS creative team includes playwright Will MacAdams and social justice educator/theatre maker Trenda Loftin (who co-direct and also perform in the piece); two child actors from Western MA, ages 10 and 11; and Atlanta-based visual artist Angela Davis Johnson, who created a mask and life-sized dolls for the piece.

____

100% of the proceeds from the reading will be donated to New Haven-based organizing work for racial justice. The proceeds will be split evenly between:

CTCORE-ORGANIZE NOW! (www.ctcore-organizenow.org) is dedicated to building communities of racial justice freedom fighters to dismantle systemic and structural racism in the state of Connecticut. We are people of color-led and we achieve our mission through a three-pillared movement building strategy and combine local base building (through our chapters) with issue-focused statewide network building.

STUDENTS FOR EDUCATIONAL JUSTICE (www.students4edjustice.org) Through youth-led organizing, SEJ spearheads efforts for racial and educational justice in CT.  SEJ envisions a country in which the histories of black people and other peoples of color are taught and understood as fundamental to American history and in which people are affirmed in their identities.
