CHS Winter Collection Drive
We hope everyone is staying warm in this record-breaking Chicago weather! In the spirit of giving and service, the College of Health Sciences Student Government Association (chs-sga@rush.edu) is hosting a collection drive for fleece blanket-making material and winter gear (e.g. sweaters, pants, gloves, scarves, etc.) for Chicago's homeless population, especially among Rush's west side anchor communities.
Due to the spontaneity of this event, we are accepting both donations through collection boxes and monetary donations through Brown Paper Tickets. Online donations can be made between Friday, February 1 and Tuesday, February 5 at 1 p.m. All proceeds will go to purchasing fleece blanket materials and additional winter gear. All donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and we thank you for your kindness and support in advance.
To donate, you will "purchase tickets" in amounts of $1, $5, $10, or $20. You may purchase as many tickets as you like. For example, if you would like to donate $7, you would purchase a $5 ticket and two $1 tickets.
Here are more details regarding the collection drive, blanket making event, and community-based distribution:
1. Collection boxes will be located in the student lounge (AAC 992) and CHS office from Friday, February 1 through Tuesday, February 5 at 5 p.m.
2. Blankets will be made during a CHS volunteer/social event hosted on Tuesday, February 5 from 5-7 p.m., where volunteers may enjoy food and learn how to make no-sew tie blankets (no sign-up is required, just attend!)
3. The blankets and winter gear will be delivered to homeless individuals in the community on Thursday, February 7 from 6-9 p.m. with Incremental Road to Grace, a non-profit homeless outreach organization started by a Rush employee.
