Madison Lyric Stage: Hansel and Gretel
Following the fairy-tale theme established this season with Into the Woods, Madison Lyric Stage brings to the Deacon John Grave House the operatic classic Hansel and Gretel. This masterpiece of German nineteenth century opera is perhaps the most beloved opera of all time! Suitable for children but also for adults alike, this is a stirring story of two hungry young children in search of adventure and sugary treats.
Hansel and Gretel is an opera by nineteenth-century composer Engelbert Humperdinck, who described it as a fairy-tale opera. The libretto was written by Humperdinck's sister, Adelheid Wette, based on the Grimm brothers' fairy tale. Experience the magic and the suspense as Madison Lyric Stage presents this wonderment of literary and musical history throughout the house and grounds of the Deacon John Grave House.
The wonderful cast of young professionals including Allison Lindsay, Sarah Himmelstein, and Alexis Rodda, in our Young Artist Production directed by Marc Deaton.
