Learning Without Language: A Movement Practice
A movement practice with minimal words, developing non-linguistic tools for learning.
Having teachers is important. But so is being able to teach yourself. How do you learn from yourself while you practice? What tools do you use for absorbing material, and collecting feedback? When you do work with teachers, how can you get the most out of them, and the experience? When you can practice well, you can learn from anybody.
Most practices offered teach you what to learn, but not HOW to learn. In this workshop we will be practicing techniques that improve your learning ability, and make you better at practice itself. We will be keeping the words to a minimum, so that more advanced communication abilities can emerge.
I want you to come out of this workshop feeling confidence in your ability to practice effectively, and a better understanding of the inner game of a movement practice, so that when you put in the time, you get the most out of it.
Movement material includes floorwork, beginner acrobatics, partner games, object manipulation, and locomotion.
Schedule: 3-:3:15 Meet and greet/logistics/ explanation of tools 3:15-4:30 Language-less movement session 4:30-4:45 Break (talk) 4:45-5:40 Language-less movement session 5:40-6:00 Closing circle/ reflections on the practice
