Facilitate for Freedom - AORTA Workshop
***SOLD OUT*** ----
Facilitating groups towards full member participation and democratic process can be challenging, especially when dealing with dynamics of power and oppression that often marginalize women, people of color, queer, trans, and gender non-conforming folks, people with disabilities, and those with limited access to the cultural cues that come with class privilege. Some simple tools can drastically shift the energy of a meeting, might help you hear new voices, and invite the perspectives of all participants. Join AORTA (Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance) for a half day workshop to practice and build confidence to disrupt harmful dynamics and move towards facilitating for justice.
By the end of this training participants will: -Learn advanced skills to address systemic power when it arises in groups -Gain a greater understanding on how our own identities impact our facilitation style -Practice skills that lead to justice including group decision making, supporting groups in conflict, and naming, intervening, and addressing systemic power when it arises. -Learn strategies for working with multiracial and multicultural groups that allow for full participation.
Who this training is for: - People who have an avenue to facilitate any kind of meeting or group process - New or experienced facilitators - People who want to make their meetings more engaging, dynamic, and accessible - People who want to learn new discussion leading and group decision-making skills and practice
ACCESSIBILITY: Project REACH is on the 4th floor in a building accessible by elevator. The workshop will be conducted entirely in English. Project REACH is NOT a scent free space, but we ask that attendees to come scent-free (guidelines are in the event registration).
