Lemniscate Arts Presents: Reader's Theatre
2 NEW plays written by Peter Oswald for Lemniscate Arts.
STEINER - Around 1870, in his fathers chilly railway station in Pottschach, Austria, 9 year old Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner beholds the spirit of his aunt emerge from a woodstove, asking him to help her now, and in future. This moment began a journey of clairvoyance, questioning and caring which led to the birth of a global movement still active in the world today. STEINER introduces audiences to this extraordinary renaissance man, his time, and the remarkable women who inspired, supported and forwarded his vision.
THE CIRCLE WIDENS: The Working of the Spirit - The Mystery Drama is an ages-old dramatic form designed to show from the stage the connection between the spiritual and earthly worlds. Rudolf Steiner, renaissance man and founder of Anthroposophy, wrote four Mystery Dramas between 1910 and 1913. He described these plays as showing a path to developing inner freedom. The Circle Widens - The Working of the Spirit by Peter Oswald, based on an outline by Marke Levene and specially commissioned by Lemniscate Arts, is the result of a collaborative exploration to understand how the saga written by Rudolf Steiner might continue. As a result of the outbreak of World War I, the production of these plays was forced to a standstill in 1914. The extreme destruction during that time bore a signature element of the Twentieth Century: disconnecting advances in applied technology from the necessary corresponding moral development. To accomplish this artistic event of this new Mystery Drama, the approach we will take to acting will use indications from Rudolf Steiner himself, as well as professional techniques from the work of respected figures in the theatre such as Michael Chekhov and Rudolf Laban.
