LA River Kayak Safari - A Storytelling River Journey
This is the first time in 80 years that Angelos can navigate this section of their Los Angele river. Not only is this fun but has profound implications for the future of Los Angeles and the development of a central parkland core. Kayak through Elysian Valley ("Frogtown") where aquatic flora and fauna flourish in a unique and verdant section of the river. This is a limited offering; get your tickets before they are gone.
Your guides are long time river activists who live next to the river; our backyards are literally the Los Angeles River. Thirteen years ago, one of our founders created an art project that put a waterwheel in the river that filtered and bottled "clean LA River water." Join us as direct participants in the re-visioning the Los Angeles River. Our trips have included long term residents, leaders of river-based non profit groups, policy makers and politicians who are willing to be baptized in the LA River.
We run a unique trip 3.5 hour trip that combines biking, kayaking, and conversation about the river. By intention our groups are smaller and we are very attentive both to each patron but also to stewardship of the river. You begin by riding upstream along the Los Angeles River pathway to the "put in." From there you navigate on the river to your original start destination, passing ponds, little rapids, flora and fauna.
The journey is surprising in many regards, including that the small rapids may just be the best "theme park ride" in LA. Along the way we pace river running with story-telling, nature talks, and history.
1:6 ratio of experienced guides to patrons. New equipment, safety vests, helmet, bikes and paddles. No disposals water bottles allowed. You must bring one that is reusable and can be clipped into your kayak using clips we provide.
