OSHA 10-Hour Maritime Industry Safety & Health Training for Boatyards
Instructed by SafetyWorks! of the Maine Dept. of Labor
This 2-day course contains basic information about: Intro to OSHA Walking working surfaces (incl. scaffolding) Emergency Action Plan/Fire safety Electrical Flammable/Combustible liquids Personal Protective Equipment (incl. respirators) Machine Guarding Hazard Communication (incl. new GHS requirements) Intro to Industrial Hygiene incl. ergonomics and typical boatyard exposures to noise/styrene/wood dust Safety and Health Program Supervisor Safety Powered Industrial Truck (forklifts) Lock-out/Tag-out Confined Spaces
The class will run from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm January 23 &24 and will be hosted at Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding in Thomaston, ME. If the weather report sounds unfavorable the alternate date is JANUARY 22!!
Course Instructors: Dawn McKenney is an Occupational Safety Engineer with the Maine Department of Labor, SafetyWorks!. She has been with SafetyWorks! for 16 years and has been a consultant for 10 years. She conducts consultation evaluations for various employers, including boat building and marinas. She is an authorized training through the OSHA Training Center to provide Maritime Industry, General Industry and Construction Industry courses.
Kerry Willett is an Occupational Safety Engineer with the Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Standards (BLS). She received her certificate in OHST in 2000 from Central Maine Community College. She is a Certified OSHA Standards Trainer for General Industry, Construction, and Maritime. She has 9 years experience as a Plant Safety Manager in a meat processing facility in Augusta Maine and 13.5 years as an OSE for BLS. Annually she attends OSHA professional development training in a variety of topics for the Maritime, Construction and General Industry trades.
