About Got Your 6 Fishing:
Over a decade of conflict has taken a tremendous toll on our military veterans, with current VA estimations showing 22 veterans are taking their own lives each and every day. Over 35 percent of those who have deployed overseas are diagnosed with some type of mental health issue upon return and we are losing the battle against post-traumatic stress and adjustment disorders. Got Your 6 Fishing is working toward improving these statistics by providing healing recreation guided by those who have had similar experiences.
Got Your 6 Fishing provides opportunities for active duty military and veterans to enjoy beautiful Washington State and our unique waterways. Through the recreation of fishing, warriors will learn coping skills, build relationships, find physical and emotional healing, and gain the knowledge needed to maintain this hobby for life.
Veterans face special challenges upon returning home, often with limited options and finances. Something as basic as getting out onto the river or Puget Sound with others who have experienced traumatic injuries or PSTD can go a long way towards bringing a sense of calm, peace, and normalcy into to the lives of our services members.
Got Your 6 is a military term that means Ive got your back. This is the founding sentiment for Got Your 6 Fishing. If you or someone you know is suffering as a result of your military service, youre not alone. Consider coming out for a trip, either by yourself, with other military buddies, or your family. Youd be amazing at how something as simple as a fishing trip can be a first step towards healing.
