I LOVE LOS ANGELES, but initially I just loved Los Angeles. One day several years ago I was invited to get out of my car, got onto a bicycle and was taken on a magical tour of the L.A. River by a Board Member of something called CicLAvia. It was on that day that I became an Angeleno and it was also on that day that I was invited to attend the next CicLAvia. I have been attending them ever since-walking, riding & dancing my way through L.A.
CicLAvia expands and enhances vibrant public spaces, promotes a cleaner environment and encourages better health using car-free street events that occur all over the beautiful city millions call home. As a nonprofit organization, we happily serve hundreds of thousands of people a year at no cost to them.
As a volunteer board member, I have witnessed time and time again how actively engaging groups of people transforms our relationship with our communities and with each other for the benefit of a greater Los Angeles. Since becoming involved with CicLAvia I now look at our routes as threads that link neighborhoods, sewing them together to strengthen the fabric of this city I deeply LOVE.
To sustain these transformative events, I have made a commitment to raise $2,500 during our pLAyday in LA fundraiser season and I hope you will help me reach it!
At our 3rd annual fundraiser on February 10, we will be honoring AARP and Alissa Walker, urbanism editor for Curbed, at The Ruby Street. I'd love for you to join me there (ruby slippers optional), but if you can't make it, a contribution of ANY amount makes an incredible impact.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
