The concert will feature a full jazz ensemble, Indian percussion, and both jazz and Indian vocalists taking us on a magical journey through what it means to make new music in the moment.
Phil Scarff (philscarff.com) is a master jazz saxophonist, and leads the acclaimed world-jazz ensembles, Natraj and the Lewis Porter-Phil Scarff Group. Phil is featured on over 35 acclaimed CDs/DVDs, including his recent Hindustani release, "Ragas on Saxophone," and releases by Natraj, Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra and Saxophone Quartet, OddSong, Sandy Prager, and National Film Preservation Foundation. World-jazz appearances included India's JazzYatra, and Prayojana International Music Festival; Ghana's PANAFEST; and Boston Globe Jazz Festival (USA).
Cascade Jazz has been performing in the Seattle and Eastside area since 2000. The group has appeared in many annual community festival concerts such as Issaquah Salmon Days, Snoqualmie Railroad Days, and the Festival at Mt. Si. The ensemble was also the featured jazz act at the Mountain Meadows Festival in 2010, and was selected to perform at the 35th Anniversary Celebration of the Total Experience Gospel Choir in Seattle in 2010. The group has 4 CDs, the latest, Invitation, featuring vocalist Susanna Fuller.
