The Contemporary Craft Council of the Craft and Folk Art Museum is proud to present an evening with artist Sonya Clark, including dinner, music and a private tour of "Material Reflex" - her first solo museum exhibition in Los Angeles.
Drawing from her Black American, Scottish and Caribbean roots, artist Sonya Clark incorporates both the actual hair of Black women and culturally associated hair-braiding techniques into textile form and sculptural objects. Her symbolic and innovative interpretation of materials and weaving processes explore the layered historical and inter-generational contexts of racial identity, political disenfranchisement and definitions of beauty within Black American cultures.
The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 22nd at the Craft and Folk Art Museum, which is located at 5814 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles 90036. General tickets are $45 and VIP tickets are $90. VIP tickets feature a seated dining experience with the artist. Members of the Contemporary Craft Council who attend the event will receive a special gift certificate to use that evening at the CAFAM gift shop.
