Hike at North Slope Sonoma Mountain Trail
Hike the not-yet-public North Slope Trail on Sonoma Mountain with SEC biologist Caitlin Cornwall on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 9 am to 3 pm.
Trek through nearly 9 miles of new trail, through lands protected by your Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. Jacob's Ranch and the other properties along the North Slope Trail will ultimately become a Sonoma County park.
Roaming across the spine of Sonoma Mountain, hikers will be treated to spectacular views, plus redwood groves, waving expanses of grasslands, and deep green oak forest. The hike leader is Caitlin Cornwall, long-time biologist and naturalist with Sonoma Ecology Center. Cornwall will help walkers see deeper into the stunning landscape of the Trail, including its history, its intricate ecology, and its beauty.
This is an advanced level hike approximately 9 miles long, including some steep terrain and about 2000 feet elevation gain. Bring plenty of water, lunch, comfortable shoes, and layered clothing to accommodate morning fog and strong afternoon sun. Heavy rain cancels the hike; light rain does not.
There is no charge for this outing, as it is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the Open Space District's work with a quarter-cent sales tax.
