Brazil Meets Portugal: An evening of Bossa Nova, Choro and Fado
An evening of Bossa Nova, Choro and Fado

Tim Connell (mandolin) and Sergio Botelho (guitar), interpreters of the Brazilian music known as Choro, will be joined by the Bossa Nova singer Alexandra Santos and Fado singer Alexandra Coutinho.

About Alexandra Coutinho:

Alexandra Coutinho comes from Lisbon, Portugal, and is one of the Northwest's premiere singers of the Portuguese music known as Fado. Alexandra has lived in Portland for many years and her amazing voice and stage presence have brought this style of music to audiences in Oregon and Washington. In 2012, with Rio Con Brio as her backing band, she released her debut CD "Fado/Fate". Alexandra never ceases to marvel at the power Fado has to touch her audience's feelings.

About Alexandra Santos:

Originally from Brazil, Alexandra started singing at an early age accompanied by her father at the guitar. Since she arrived in Portland ten years ago, Alexandra has been singing with different ensembles, including Bloco Alegria and Quinteto Brasil. Her beautiful voice and charisma have captivated Brazilian music lovers in Portland.

About Tim Connell:

Tim Connell has created a sophisticated and original global style on the mandolin. Widely regarded as one of the top North American interpreters of the Brazilian Choro style on the mandolin, Tim has his own unique voice on the instrument, described in a Mandolin Magazine cover story as fiery and energetic, soulful and evocative. Tims latest releases include June Apple, a nationally-noted album of Bluegrass fiddle tunes with guitarist Eric Skye, and MandAlone a collection of original solo mandolin arrangements including his popular arrangement of Here Comes the Sun.

About Sergio Botelho:

Sergio Botelho was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and started playing the guitar at age 10, soon becoming fascinated by the sultry rhythms and lush harmonies in the music of his homeland. He later fell in love with classical guitar, and today can feel at home playing both popular and erudite music. Most recently, he can be seen around town performing music from Duo Becar's debut album of all-Brazilian repertoire with pianist Florence Deutsch.
