Chasing Ice Bainbridge Island Film Screening - 10am
Due to popular demand, Coates Design Architects is offering another free showing of Chasing Ice on Saturday, April 20th at 10am, at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art Auditorium. This free, community event will be an integral part of Earth Day celebrations on Bainbridge Island.  Chasing Ice, rated PG-13, captures breathtaking images to help tell the story of the Earth's changing climate, and won the Excellence in Cinematography award at Sundance Film Festival in 2012.

Matthew Coates, President of Coates Design Architects and Eric Steig, climate scientist from the University of Washington, will be on hand at both events to provide unique insights.

Matthew Coates is the President of Coates Design Architects. Eight years ago, Matthew won the Cradle to Cradle International Design Competition which challenged entrants to conceive the most sustainable home of the future.  He used the momentum from this achievement to open a practice devoted to deep green, elegant design.  Coates Design Architects designed the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, targeted to be the first LEED Gold museum in Washington State.  Matthew Coates believes "Every Day is Earth Day."

Eric Steig teaches environmental earth science, isotope geochemistry and paleoclimatology at the University of Washington. He is acquainted with most of the scientists in Chasing Ice.  Eric is a dynamic and engaging speaker who makes complex concepts understandable.  He is the founding co-director of ISOLAB, a state-of-the art isotope geochemistry facility involving research ranging from climate and atmospheric chemistry to geobiology.  Eric Steig has served on the national steering committees for the Ice Core Working Group, the Paleoenvironmental Arctic Sciences initiative, and the West Antarctic Ice Sheet Initiative, all sponsored by the US National Science Foundation.

A special thanks to the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Sustainable Bainbridge, and Town & Country Market for supporting this community event.
