SuitCase Dances
Charles Smith Wines is pleased to announce the forthcoming collaborative performance of former Whitman College Dance Instuctor, Vicki Lloid, with Peter de Grasse of Staatstheater Darmstadt fame. "SuitCase Dances" will be an evening of virtuosic contemporary dance, performance art, live music and theater. Show begin at 8pm. Doors open for general seating at 7pm.
In their current project, "SuitCase Dances", de Grasse, Lloid and their company unpack a suite of chamber scale theatrical works designed for an intimate, alternative venue.
The program will feature Lloid's full-length "Even So" a work commissioned for two actors and two dancers which will appear in Port Angeles this spring as part of a three week celebration of the life and work of the great American poet and short story writer, Raymond Carver. By illuminating the final moments of Carver's life, the work will reveal the uncanny life that remains to the poets after death: a life that has continued across the vast expanse of time to exist in a changed but real and recognizable form.
In addition to the debut of new short work to be created and performed by de Grasse specifically for the Charles Smith Tasting Room performance, the program will include Lloid and de Grasse's choreographic collaboration entitled "The Relatives". Created through a series of tandem improvisations and theatrical exercises, "The Relatives" is a piece of comedy and contemporary dance in which Lloid and de Grasse's embodied eccentricities are designed to evoke laughter and shatter expectations.
In what promises to be an intimate, varied, and exciting program, slapstick, cross-dressing, live dialogue, high leaps and drama will populate the stage in a continuous evening of art, experimentation and fantastic wine.
